Upgrad Referral Code

upGrad runs online PG, Masters and certification programs in data science, management, law and technology. Its referral benefit is generous but conditional, and the conditions are where most referrals fail.

upGrad's referral works differently from a signup bonus, and the amount is not a fixed number. The referred learner receives a pre-applied fee waiver — upGrad's own page describes waivers of up to ₹1,00,000 or a free course depending on the program — while the referrer becomes eligible for a referral benefit once the friend makes full payment. The value depends entirely on which program the referee enrols in, which is why every site quoting a single flat figure is quoting one row of a table.

The condition that catches people is timing on the code itself. The referral code must be applied by the referee during signup or on the application, before the application is submitted. Once entered and the seat is blocked, it cannot be modified by anyone, including upGrad's backend team. If the wrong code was entered, or no code was entered, no reward is payable and there is no appeal.

Payout has three further gates. The referee must commence the batch, complete fifteen days in the program, and pay the full fees. The referrer's own batch must have commenced before the payout window if they are an enrolled learner. And the reward is treated as income: upGrad sends a PAN form from [email protected], and cashback is disbursed via a Razorpay link within 7–10 working days once PAN is verified. Rewards are subject to TDS.

Non-enrolled referrers — people who have only signed up on the site without buying a course — can still refer, but receive vouchers rather than cash.
