How to Use a PhonePe UPI Referral Code

Share the link when they are ready

Your friend has one hour from clicking it to complete signup. Sending a link to be dealt with later is the most common way this referral dies.

They register inside the hour

On the PhonePe app, through your link. Miss the window and nothing can be recovered afterwards.

They link a first-time bank account

The account they pay from must never have been linked to PhonePe before — including on a family member's old account.

First BHIM UPI payment in 7 days

Once that lands, cashback is credited to both sides at the value of the campaign running on your account.

PhonePe's referral has the tightest window of any program on this site, and almost nobody knows it exists. If you have ever shared a PhonePe link and never been paid, the reason is probably measured in minutes.

One hour. Not one day, not one week. If you send someone a link and they open it at lunchtime, mean to get to it, and register that evening, the referral is already void — and neither of you will ever be told why. The second condition is a seven-day window for the first payment. Once registered, your friend must complete their first payment using BHIM UPI on PhonePe within seven days. This one is generous by comparison and rarely the problem.

The third is subtle and catches honest cases. The bank account your friend transfers from must be linked on PhonePe for the first time. If that account has previously been linked to any PhonePe account, the referral does not qualify. It exists to stop people reinstalling on a new number and referring themselves, but it also disqualifies genuine referrals — a shared family account that a parent or sibling once linked will fail the check even though your friend is genuinely new.

On the amount: PhonePe has published ₹100 to the referrer on the friend's first BHIM UPI payment, and listing sites advertise figures up to ₹1,000 by stacking campaign maximums. The value changes with the campaign running on your account. The Refer and Earn screen in your own app is the only figure that applies to you.

The mechanism has been far more stable than the number, and the mechanism is where the money is lost. One hour to register, seven days to pay, from a bank account never previously linked to PhonePe.
