The reason to have EaseMyTrip open is not its referral, which pays in discounts. It is that the three platforms most people compare against each other are owned by the same company, and this one isn't.

EaseMyTrip books flights, hotels, holiday packages, buses, trains and cabs in India. Its referral pays in discounts on bookings rather than in cash — which places it alongside the wallet-credit rewards elsewhere in this batch as something that is only worth anything if you were going to book anyway.

The substantive reason this page exists is comparison, and it requires stating a fact about a competitor.

MakeMyTrip owns Goibibo and redBus. On 31 January 2017 MakeMyTrip completed its acquisition of the ibibo Group, purchasing 100% of the equity from MIH Internet, an indirect Naspers subsidiary, in a transaction valued at approximately $1.8 billion — bringing MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, redBus, Ryde and Rightstay under one owner and creating India's largest online travel company.

That has a direct, practical effect on how most people shop for travel. The standard technique is to open several booking sites and take the cheapest quote. If three of the tabs are MakeMyTrip, Goibibo and redBus, that is one company quoted three times, drawing on shared inventory and supplier relationships. It is not a comparison in the sense the exercise assumes, and the reassurance of seeing similar prices across those three is largely manufactured.

EaseMyTrip sits outside that group, which makes it genuinely useful as a second quote — not because its prices are always better, but because a price from a different company is actual information where a price from a sibling brand is not.

The right way to use it, then: get one quote from within the MakeMyTrip group if you like, one from EaseMyTrip, and one direct from the airline or hotel. That last one is the step most people skip, and it is frequently the most valuable — not always on headline fare, but on the terms that matter when plans change. Direct bookings are usually simpler to amend or cancel, refunds are handled by one party rather than two, and when a flight is disrupted the airline deals with its own passenger rather than with an intermediary's customer. An OTA saving of a few hundred rupees is routinely wiped out by a single change fee or by the delay of a refund routed through an agent.

On the referral itself, apply the standard test for anything paid in discounts or credit: it is worth something only if you were going to buy regardless, it cannot be withdrawn, and it usually carries conditions — a minimum booking value, an expiry, and a cap on how much of a fare it can cover. Establish those before treating the offer as a reason to choose one platform over another, because on a flight booking the difference in base fare between platforms will usually exceed the discount.
